Over 1000 artists have released a silent album as a protest against the UK government's decision to sell music copyright to artificial intelligence companies.

As artificial intelligence rapidly develops, copyright issues are becoming a new challenge for AI companies. On November 13, 2024, the German music copyright organization GEMA filed a lawsuit against OpenAI in the Munich District Court, making it the first collective management organization in the world to take legal action against an AI provider. GEMA claims that OpenAI's ChatGPT has unlawfully copied and used copyrighted lyrics without obtaining proper licenses and paying royalties. This lawsuit also targets OpenAI LLC in the United States.

Meta (formerly Facebook) and Universal Music Group (UMG) have expanded their long-standing music licensing agreement aimed at enhancing copyright protection while addressing solutions for the application of AI technology in the music field. The new agreement allows users to freely share songs from UMG's music library across Meta's platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Horizon, Threads, and WhatsApp, ensuring that users can enjoy music while avoiding copyright infringement.
